I love it when people ask me what a normal day is like here.. so I thought I woudl add my thoughts! I am so glad that God is not a normal God because he is the only TRUE GOD and that He does not call us to be normal.. but set apart for Him. (ok… really i didn’t mean to preach just then. it just happened.)
Is it normal that I walked one hour and a half to language school today because we are out of petrol (gasoline) in Kathmandu… have been for a while.. it’s a very bad situation for the country? Is it normal that while on my walk this morning I:Got stuck (literally) stuck in ankle deep mud that’s on our road because they chose to dig a hole for the sewer system during monsoon rains and well they dig and undig the whole everyday and it’s quite the exciting muddy messI had to move over for a bull (a large cow with horns.. picture it) to walk by me on the bridge.. then laugh as I watched traffic slow for the four cows laying in the road.. on a busy road mind youOn my walk due to the pouring monsoon rain part of town where I had to walk through was flooded in water to my ankles. .. not clean water mind you.. water that comes from the sewage overflowing. Is it normal that I was thinking hmm.. I wonder if this sewage walking stuff is bad for my health but yet still walking on because what else is there to doIs it normal that while walking through the flood i had to keep a Christian like face on as the bus that zoomed by me splashed a huge pile of that wonderful muddy water all over meIs it normal that I was thanking God over and over for the inventor of the umbrella and rain jacked as I walked… it was created for monsoon in NepalIs it normal that I got spit on by a child as I walked by… and then they tried to practice their english on me Is it normal that on my walk I had to walk through one brick throwing riot that had just started.. not quite sure why.. riots are always gong on hereIs it normal that I was almost maimed by umbrellas 5 times while walking, an I am pretty sure I took out at least 6 nepalee people’s eyes out while walkingIs it normal that when I reached language school I was 15 minutes late but the teacher didn’t show up for about 10 more minutes after that.Is it normal that after language school I walked to the post office and got two incredible packages (thank you VERY much James) but upon leaving the post office was surronded by about 100 police men with their big old machine guns and full riot gear on (is it nomral that I know what full riot gear looks like) Then I tried to walk to get home but all the roads were blocked by brick throwing riots. Luckily I ran into my philipino friend who knew a back way– so we hopped in a taxi and then have to go like 5 back roads to find a road that was not blocked by the brick throwing madness… the whole way home everywhere you could look there was policemen and soldiers in full riot gear. Not sure why they were rioting.. this is pretty normal. Is it normal that then when i reached home I was going to study some more for the ladies nepalee bible study that i was teaching that night, but a nepalee friend just stopped by to visit, so we had a great visit. Is it normal that after Bible study we were eating rice and lentils with our hands when another random nepalee lady showed up at the door asking for me.. i had never seen her/nor met her, but I invited her in and she just joined us for dinner. I love the craziness called living in nepal.. never a dull moment that’s for sure!!Is it normal that in the midst of all this I did not bat an eye because all this stuff is a normal day for me?
I am so glad called me to an unnormal life!
