This may be the best way to start out the title of this post.. mahima.. for those of you that have forgotten that is the nepalese word for Glory..that’s really all i can say about this time here in nepal so far.. glory glory glory! (that’s three mahimas. shouted loud and proud)
I honestly don’t even know where to begin. I have had such a blast. It’s amazing the part of me that comes alive in the adventure of life here. I cannot explain it , but I will always have a part of my heart here in nepal. God made me that way. He ordained and wrote in His book before time began for me to live here, love here, and learn to dance more here for two years. But being here in nepal this time has brought much closure to my heart. Leaving one year ago was difficult.. it required me prying my hands off what I thought my well orchestrated plan for my life was. It required me praying my hands off worrying what people would think– was I leaving as a failure? Was I leaving because I just did not have what it took to serve God in a difficult place? Was I leaving because I missed the comforts of home and my incredibly awesome family? Leaving nepal required me praying my hands off the title missionary– with that title came so many source of pride. I am one of “Those people” .. I had to let that go. Saying goodbye was a long journey. But saying goodbye, leaving here allowed me to open my hands to receive so many incredible things from the lord though. Like being with my family again. Like living in victory .. like learning again who I am in Christ without the missionary title. Like getting an INCREDIBLE ladies BIBLE study on thursday night that has become a piece of heaven to me. Like getting a wonderful mentor who is a “big me” .. hanging out with a nephew who LOVES his ‘nenn and his ‘nenn loves him.. so many blessings.. and a ministry job that allowed me to experience the opportunity to really disciple some of the most amazing college students.
All that to say.. coming back here God has shut the door in my heart in a way I cannot explain showing me more then ever I followed His voice even when it did not make sense to leave. The story God has written for me is amazing.. the story God has written for you in amazing! I will always have a part of my heart here.. but coming here this time has given me the closure that I did not even necessarily know i needed.
Ok. .. enough with the deep stuff!
Fun stuff: I have had a blast doing all kinds of things. I have spent a ton of time with missionaries just hearing their stories. I have been blessed to spend a ton of time laughing and catching up with my nepalee friends.. I cannot tell you how awesome it is to open my mouth and fluently speak nepalese.. it reminds me of Gods goodness and grace that He helped me learn it!
I have (i’m not going to lie) enjoyed so much the cheap things in nepal like pedicures, manicures, massages and hair straightening.. hehehe. you guys know that is part of my ministry. I know those ladies well so they were soo excited to see me again.. my massage lady calls me her daughter. I wish you could have seen her face when she saw me. Such pure joy.. I did not care that she called me fat when she was giving me a massage because well she could have said anything she wanted to!
I have zipped around everywhere on my scooter and loved it.
I loved going back to nepalee church and seeing the church family that I spent every saturday with and did most of my ministry here with. sitting on the floor and worshipping in nepalee was actually such a blessing.. it reminds me how God is such a God of the nations.
apart of me has come alive in the adventure.. the driving, the stinky smells, the talking in another language.. the joys that come with the crazy chaos of nepal
Yesterday went back to the house fellowship of missionaries that was my church, my community while I was here. It’s so cool because it’s pretty much never the same group of people, but when you are on the battlefield serving God together it’s like you are instant friends. it was so awesome last night as we sang .. fellowshipped and shared what God was doing in each of our lives.. all different people from all different backgrounds, but all on the same battlefield serving God.
I have experienced everything from picking a bug out of my cereal, to killing cockroaches @ the restaurant and casually continuing eating.. to going through a police checkpoint on my scooter without a license by simply smiling and speaking nepalee while batting my blue eyes, to going to the same stores just to see the people that I tried to pour the joy of jesus into. it’s been awesome.
And as for this week.. I have every meal scheduled and every minute scheduled.. lots of dhal bhat welcome back/goodbye your going to quick meals… I am so excited.. but pray my stomache stays strong.. leah is soo great she is going to go with me. it will be soo much fun.
i miss you guys and i looove you so oo much!
