So today I am finishing up reading through the book of Matthew with my church and came to Matthew 26:6 when Jesus was annointed at Bethany.
And it brought to mind a memory. Once I was getting ready to go spend a summer on a mission trip and a friend of mine asked if I would come over because she wanted to annoint me for the trip.
They annointed people in the Bible all the time with oil, so it sounded great to me. I was a little more intrigued to say the least when she asked me to bring my bathing suit.
Lol.. this lady was serious about making sure I was annointed . When I got there she surprised me by asking me if I would step in the bathtub in my bathing suit, and she poured two bottles of oil over my head.
Whew– I must have needed lots of prayer and setting apart.
She didn’t care what the people there would think.
She didn’t care that she was “wasting” her expensive perfume.
She didn’t care the response.
She wanted to pour her affection, her devotion, her hopes, her plans, her dreams– on the feet of Jesus.
She left it all behind.
I want to leave it all behind at the feet of Jesus.
My devotion, my hopes, my plans, my dreams, my not worrying about what others think.
At the feet of Jesus.
Broken and beautiful.
