I was really sick with a parasite that summer, and I told my mom on the phone that I never wanted to come back to nepal. And then I met people like Beth. Beth was a Nepalese lady who I worked with in between making maxis. She was a nurse/counselor and I went with her to meet with patients who had tried to commit suicide. She oozed Jesus, and I wanted to be like her. While following her around I felt God whisper, you are going to come back here, learn the language, and THESE will be your people. I may or may not have thought God was crazy and that was the parasite talking.
So I finished my degree in counseling and began the process of coming back to Nepal. I did not know what happened to Beth.
I have kept thinking, like Esther in the Bible, God has brought all the things in my life together for such a time as this. Today I ran into Beth. I got to hug her tight, pray with her and share how I had come back to Nepal and lived for two years, and come every year since.
Beth shared how God was using the earthquake to mobilize the Nepalese Christian church.
For such a time as this.
Later I traveled to my neighborhood that i lived in for two years. Those were my people. It was surreal to walk down my streets and see people living in tents, building cracked and unlivable.
But the joy when I heard Jenn Auntie called loudly as I entered the orphanage gates. I have worked with these precious orphan children at Abba’s house for the past 9 years. I have watched them grow from small to tall, from orphaned and lonely to His and Holy.
Today I got to hug their necks, laugh with them, smile BIG with them. And hear their stories of the earthquake. Of how they were in church and the pastor finished his sermon outside (now that’s dedication). How they are still sleeping outside due to aftershocks. How each tremor sends them trembling . But they to kept saying… God will protect us. God is good. We are His.
Would you pray with me for God’s perfect love to cast out fear.
Would you pray for those that have trembling hearts to feel the hands of God steady them.
The Hindu people believe the earthquake was caused by a hindu god because a Chinese man killed a snake in the village we were at Sunday and this snake must have been a reincarnated God.
Or they believe the earthquake happened because the Christian God was mad at His people.
I know a God who loves people so much He sent His son to die to rescue them.
To be their rock.
When their world is shaking.
A God who rolled away a stone at an empty tomb with an earthquake to show that He is alive.
Would you pray God uses this earthquake to roll away the stones on peoples hearts and show HE is ALIVE.
Tomorrow we journey to the epicenter of the first earthquake, Ghorka. Pray God uses us to pour His love, truth, counsel and peace there on those people. Thousands died in Ghorka and every house is destroyed.
