I have been studying the book of Esther with my good friend Terry Esquinance. Every morning we text each other what we got from the chapter in the Bible we read that day. I have read the book of Esther many times, but God is highlighting so many new things for me this time.
The quote above was in a text message as we studied chapter 6 and 7 and I just cannot get over it. I keep thinking about it. So I wanted to share it with you.
“What Mordecai thought was death for Him became life in the hands of the king.”
If you are unfamiliar with the story of Esther, Mordecai had a death warrant against Him simply because He was a Jew and refused to bow down before Haman. Haman wanted EVERYONE to worship Him, so needless to say, He was not happy and wanted to make an example of Him. He even had gallows constructed to hang Mordecai on.
These gallows were meant for Modecai’s death. But God turned the tables. The King couldn’t sleep one night and read the book of chronicles, basically a written history of what had been happening in his kingdom. This was before Netflix binges were an option for the non-sleepy among us of course.
He read about how Mordecai had saved him from a plot against His life. So He wanted to honor Mordecai. Then He found out about the gallows Haman had made. And the King decided those would be used for the death of Haman instead.
God turned the tables.
I could not get off my heart this morning to write and encourage you, my friends, that what the enemy means for evil, for the death of you– in the hands of our KING, it can become life.
John 10:10 The thief (our enemy, Satan) comes to steal, kill and destroy, but I (Jesus ) have come to give you life and life abundantly.
Esther 9:1-2 (NIV) On this day the enemies of the Jews had hoped to overpower them, but now the tables were turned and the Jews got the upper hand over those who hated them.
For my friends who wonders how God could possibly bring life to the situation that you feel may kill you, hold on to the one who is holding onto you.
He held His hands on a cross for you. He will not leave you.
My friend, I would love to pray over you today.
Father, I pray for the one who is in the midst of a situation that feels it may kill them. Emotionally, spiritually or physically. Father come with such a sense of your nearness. God remind us that you are in the resurrection business. That you bring life. Jesus would you turn the tables. And as we wait, would you minister to our hearts. Remind us that you are working behind the scenes. Jesus I thank you that you are a king who brings life. In Jesus name, Amen.
Ps: I am linking with my Dear friend Holley Gerth for coffee for your heart, you should pop over and join us there!
